It is with great pleasure that I announce a new installment of the Landing Pad! A daily haiku brought to you for your enjoyment. Each day,17 syllables of  insightful perspective, reflection on nature, and the address of common problems our society faces today whether it's ugly chicks, light pollution, or penis envy (that's you, not me). Even a stab at Doo Doo Mamas of America! I promise you won't be let down. However, if you are a true connoisseur of prose and poetry and manage to stumble across the haiku series you'll probably be little more than slightly nauseous in which case I'd recommend that you pop some Skittles and chill the fuck out. Really excited about this...no, the picture is not entirely relevant, I simply hoped to evoke a similar level of disgust with the series to come.

Back to Lupe

Next month is looking to be a great one for hip-hop with Mac Miller's new mixtape Best Day Ever, Wiz Khalifa's new album Rolling Papers, and Lupe Fiasco's long awaited Lasers all dropping in March. A new Lupe song made it's way onto the internet recently called All Black Everything. So as to avoid confusion with the P.O.S. Soulja Boy track that you'll no doubt find if you search this title on youtube I've gone ahead and posted it below along with another one of my favorites he released not too long ago titled Words I Never Said. I stumbled on this great track today. For those of you who don't already know, Nero is an amazing dubstep artist well known for songs like Act Like You Know. This track, a remix of the song Recluse by Plan B, is one of my favorite. The song speaks for itself. You just might lock yourself in your room with this track on repeat... I know I'm about to.

robot+pirate=???

So a few months ago I found this pretty funny video for a pretty funny song called robot pirates. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth checking out so i'll post it.

After seeing this video I thought I would be pretty justified in assuming this would be the best thing to come of the unlikely duo of robots and pirates. I was wrong. I stumbled upon the Disturbing Pleasant Streets EP the other day. Its a great listen brought to us by Robotic Pirate Monkey. You can think it's a coincidence... but you'd be wrong. It's now been proven... Robot + Pirate = win

Bassnectar has got to be one of the coolest and most accurate artist alias ever. My friend recently put me on the Bassnectar remix of Ellie Goulding's song Lights and umm... well... this song melted my face... and then my soul drank it. Do be warned, nothing you've ever heard or will hear will allow you to reach this sort of eargasm again... Enjoy, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Maverick Sabre

Large ups to my boy from across the pond!  Out of England, I bring to you Maverick Sabre, the lyrically inclined artist of the acoustic guitar/ hip-hop genre. I found this guy on a feature with Professor Green and had to pull up a search tab before the video was over. I don't currently have a playlist that he isn't on, he's that dope. His mellow vocals and smooth beats often coupled by guitar have a unique sound; it's as if the best sounds of reggae and conscious hip-hop decided to gang up on some dope beats. I'm new to this so be easy. Just want to share a few minutes of some homegrown dubstep. This took about 30 minutes to string together, although it would have taken me much longer to create something worthwhile had I taken the time to really explore the various sound bits. Wiz Khalifa's single "Black & Yellow" can't get enough play and I honestly could listen to this several times on repeat but frankly, I don't. His weed songs get much more play on my headset; all else has been replace with dubstep *wink. Wiz was dope from the start, before he became the new model for all things Marijuana. You might not even believe me if I told you he had a thug swag before that, but all the proof is in his track "Oh No" on the Prince of the City mixtape; it's got that Steeler flow. * I had to. This is the clip of Wiz performing at Lopez Tonight and as I'm a huge fan of George and his comedy I think it's great to see to of my favorite people getting together. Dank N' Dirty Dubstep

Whooooeeeee!! I am so glad to be sharing this with you guys today. Deciding to stick with a major theme in my life *cough, cough I decided to put up this video in honor of my favorite time of day which I don't mind readjusting my lunch schedule for ;) Large ups to DJ Sashwat **<<free music!!and them Bandcamp network for this one. Everyday R.I.P J Dilla...chances are, if you ever spit to an instrumental that blew your mind or tried to track down "that one sick beat" it was the work of the master JD. This work was entered in the J Dilla Tribute Contest. What's with the donut? I haven't read any reviews yet and I don't have to. It's Kweli. Any sliver of doubt in his latest album Gutter Rainbows  (expected to drop in two days!!) would suggest that you really don't know who he is. This is the man that brought you Black Star with Mos Def. What do you have to prove when your name is synonymous with the phrase "real hip-hop music" huh? Absolutely nada, you just keep putting on. Phew! I really am excited for this to drop. Here's a another leak from the album, Uh Oh featuring Jean Grae (produced by Oh No of Stones Throw Records) **yeah, that downward arrow and line means download silly. :)

Grime and crumpets

Sorry rap game but I'm having a very public love affair with Grime music. *Google it. In short Grime music is the UK's equivalent to rap music with a dreadlock twist. Think dubstep meets the English rapper and the occasional Jamaican dancehall artist. I fucks with that...here's a video of Hip-Hop/Grime artist Professor Green's "Before I Die." Note, this is not a Grime beat, I'll be posting a more relevant video when I'm finished studying. Signed to Virgin Records, Green came up on the freestyle circuit before gaining notoriety and he's done recent work with The Streets, Lily Allen, and popular Grime artists Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, and Devlin (I'm a big fan of Chippy and Dev). Oh, and he also put on with Compton rapper The Game during his bit on a London tour. *Not so fun fact, his father hung himself in late 2008 and before the music scene his life choices resulted in dropping out of school and close calls with the coppers. Perhaps the notion that music has changed his life for the better is being playfully juxtaposed in this video, as he is seen being hung from a belt with piano keys as well as a light-hearted reference to his father's passing. This is of course, apart from its relevance to the lyrics...too much too much, just enjoy..

Ca$h and Task Force Ent.

Shout out to one of the dopest dudes doing it right now, Ca$h of Task Force Ent. As an army brat, Ca$h quickly grew accustomed to traveling the world and is now on a mission to take it over. Born in Wurzburg, Germany and later moving to the US mainland, Ca$h found his passion for music in the heart of Queens, New York. Later moving to the St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, Ca$h quickly continued to pursue his passion for music working as a key member of the Ghost City Ent. group. With two mixtapes under his belt, Ca$h moved to Florida in 2007 where he started Task Force Ent. through which he produced his first solo mixtape The Revolution (2008). Its quick success, notably from his lead single "She Got Me Going Crazy" led to the release of his second solo mixtape Unda Da Influence, yet another display of his versatility as an artist. With a steadily growing fan base, Ca$h is still grinding; more recently his work includes opening for G-Unit's Young Buck and performing at the popular South Beach venue The Living Room. If the title of his latest EP One Way Ticket is any indication, we can expect big things from Ca$h this year. Featuring the hot track "Because I" with Jugga Rock, (the Caribbean's hottest new Reggae/Pop music artist taking over the scene) and 11 other dope tracks *do the math. Chances are you're at least vaguely familiar with the novella Animal Farm, a less than subtle satire of Stalin's regime and the Soviet Union (by way of the animal allegory). 1984 tells of a dystopia in the land of Oceania whereby an oligarchical government system controls the society through constant invasive surveillance, heavily produced propaganda, and manipulative war schemes. With the provocative implications of these works as well as the timeless application to society, Orwell has left a legacy in literary world with his deeply philosophical political commentaries. Nite Jewel

Nite Jewel. Damn. I was lucky enough to discover a while back  her as I was clicking through some podcasts by the Stones Throw label (you know, Quasimoto, Aloe Blacc, Mayer Hawthorne...get familiar) She takes trance electronic and a decades old disco vibe and makes it her own groovy business. Her voice exudes a soft, passionate yearning; I think she has acid on her lips and I love it. The melancholy, ethereal sound of the synthesizers are what really piqued my interest but her music videos are just as interesting. She's a very interesting woman...fun fact, Nite Jewel (Ramona Gonzalez) is a recent graduate of Occidental College *word to Obama* where she studied philosophy. Her music is all over my playlists, enjoy!

These have been on my wish-list for quite some time now and you may have seen them. Alife's Chuck Naval leather shoe is a smooth fusion of boot and sneaker sure to please the everyday minimalist. Its simple dimensions make it a perfectly applicable for daily wear; skate, school, or whatever else it is you do. For anybody feeling extra nice, I'm a 9.5 (*10 for the ladies reading).

I was digging through the dusty old files that my mom kept and I came across this little number that I thought to share with you. I wrote this poem as part of a writing assignment in the 8th grade as a tribute Alex Haley's novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family. Fun fact, it won 3rd place in an island wide poetry contest though in reality there were probably three entries (c'mon St. Thomas)...please enjoy this nonetheless. The Struggle, the trouble, the people, the hassles

Untitled

Just thought you guys might enjoy this little project I'm working on right now. The inspiration for this piece draws from graffiti art and the abstract expressionist style of Jackson Pollock (albeit a far cry from the likes of his detailed work).  This is the first layer I've applied so far but I expect to apply at least three more layers using heavier based paints. It's all acrylic with a mix of fabric paints fused with melted wax to create a similar texture to oil based paints. I also used some basic quality spray paint and mod-podge. I'm really excited to finish it off though; I'm gonna seal it with a coat or two of clear gloss lacquer for a glassy, hardened look and texture.

On a different, though related note, I had the luxury of enjoying a day with the family at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. It was like an art history course all over again walking through the corridors filled with the works of Picasso, Van Gogh, and Matisse. Not much else needs to be said to expand on the aforementioned names, it was very impressive but sadly there was only one Pollock canvas and no Salvador Dali work. It's ok though, I got an eye full last year at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Fl.

The Remix

 I'm very happy with the new Kid Sister mixtape Kiss Kiss Kiss. It's the combination of good sounds that never gets old; hop hop/rap flow and tasteful, energetic electro beats with features including Gucci Mane, Nina Sky, and Caspa.  Few things make me happier than an hot track remix. That is, a hot track with a DUBSTEP remix...and in case you didn't realize, anything Caspa tweaks is worth a listen. Falling at number 11 of 13, Caspa's take on the Right Hand Hi ended up with a few repeats before I could carry on.  It doesn't hurt that she's a gorgeous ethnic blend as exciting as her genre: African American, Caucasian, and *word to my Navahoes* Native American. If that was too much, I'll take it a step further...she's sexy as fuck! Ok, before running off on an inappropriate tangent I'll just say check out the mixtape and check out my already favorited remix of Right Hand Hi (youtube link if you need the preview **hyperlinks are fun hehe). The Importance of Being Earnest

I hope you all enjoyed the New Year with positive vibes all around. For some, a new year is a time for reflection; we can sit back look at what we've accomplished, what we haven't, and perhaps more importantly what we strive to accomplish. Personally, this year has been marked by setbacks and mounting emotional and physical stress. It took me until the 31st of December to notice the silver lining in the rain clouds. Correction, that shit was Golden. Sometimes, inaction brings forth the most progress. Whether you're out of school, out of work, or just plain out of luck, the important thing is to continue to maintain a positive and wholesome attitude through troubled times.  The positive mind is a powerful tool, lest we forget. We seldom recognize the things we do to ourselves that hinder our growth and keep us bogged down. Consider not what is that you want, but what it is that genuinely uplifts your spirit. It can be as simple as reading or burning incense and meditating in solitude or a more dynamic activity as say, playing sports or creating artwork; what matters is that we find ways to maintain positivity. In the words of almost every dancehall artist, "bun wickedness  and bad-mind." Surround yourself with positive influences and experience the difference.

A rainstorm can't last forever but the sunshine is eternal!
