Maverick Sabre

Large ups to my boy from across the pond!  Out of England, I bring to you Maverick Sabre, the lyrically inclined artist of the acoustic guitar/ hip-hop genre. I found this guy on a feature with Professor Green and had to pull up a search tab before the video was over. I don't currently have a playlist that he isn't on, he's that dope. His mellow vocals and smooth beats often coupled by guitar have a unique sound; it's as if the best sounds of reggae and conscious hip-hop decided to gang up on some dope beats. Grime and crumpets

Sorry rap game but I'm having a very public love affair with Grime music. *Google it. In short Grime music is the UK's equivalent to rap music with a dreadlock twist. Think dubstep meets the English rapper and the occasional Jamaican dancehall artist. I fucks with that...here's a video of Hip-Hop/Grime artist Professor Green's "Before I Die." Note, this is not a Grime beat, I'll be posting a more relevant video when I'm finished studying. Signed to Virgin Records, Green came up on the freestyle circuit before gaining notoriety and he's done recent work with The Streets, Lily Allen, and popular Grime artists Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, and Devlin (I'm a big fan of Chippy and Dev). Oh, and he also put on with Compton rapper The Game during his bit on a London tour. *Not so fun fact, his father hung himself in late 2008 and before the music scene his life choices resulted in dropping out of school and close calls with the coppers. Perhaps the notion that music has changed his life for the better is being playfully juxtaposed in this video, as he is seen being hung from a belt with piano keys as well as a light-hearted reference to his father's passing. This is of course, apart from its relevance to the lyrics...too much too much, just enjoy..

Nite Jewel

Nite Jewel. Damn. I was lucky enough to discover a while back  her as I was clicking through some podcasts by the Stones Throw label (you know, Quasimoto, Aloe Blacc, Mayer Hawthorne...get familiar) She takes trance electronic and a decades old disco vibe and makes it her own groovy business. Her voice exudes a soft, passionate yearning; I think she has acid on her lips and I love it. The melancholy, ethereal sound of the synthesizers are what really piqued my interest but her music videos are just as interesting. She's a very interesting woman...fun fact, Nite Jewel (Ramona Gonzalez) is a recent graduate of Occidental College *word to Obama* where she studied philosophy. Her music is all over my playlists, enjoy!
